On-trade Soft Drinks - UK - September 2001
On-trade Soft Drinks - UK - September 2001

The sale of soft drinks in the on-trade is estimated to be worth just under £5.2 billion at current prices, with volume sales at some 1.7 billion.

Is the future success of the market dependent on adult-oriented range of soft drinks?

Carbonated soft drinks accounted for some 63% of on-trade volumes in 2000, compared to 20% for bottled water, 15% for fruit juices and 3% for energy/adult drinks.

This report looks at the size and make-up of the on-trade soft drinks market over the period 1996-2001, last examined examined by Mintel in August 1997. On-trade volumes have been growing at a slower rate than those in the off-trade, prompting Mintel to consider the hypothesis that manufacturers must consider reducing the price of on-trade soft drinks and develop a more adult-oriented range of soft drinks if the market is to grow further.
