Entertainment and Tickets - UK - February 2001

Over 11.68 million entertainment tickets were sold via the Internet over the last 12 months. What is the most popular form of entertainment ticket bought over the Internet?

What are the key advantages of buying entertainment tickets via the Internet?

61% of Internet users are likely to use the Internet to purchase entertainment tickets in the future. Will this sector offer new opportunities to the online industry?

Unlike some aspects of the retail sector, the entertainment business still by and large sells its own product, which is retailed via a box office function. It is also somewhat unique in that the purchase and consumption of the product are often separated by some time and that the customer is required to attend the event. While the purchase may take place at home, the consumption takes place elsewhere.

Primarily these events will be sports, music concerts and festivals, cinema, theatre and theme parks. Museums, art galleries and exhibitions will be covered in a slightly more peripheral way.
