Retailing in Emerging Markets - Europe - July 2011

For the 2011 edition of the Retailing in Emerging Markets report we have added a number of new markets to extend our coverage. As a result this year’s edition includes coverage of 15 European markets in Central and Eastern Europe, plus Turkey. The new markets covered in this edition are Albania, Belarus, Macedonia, Moldova, Serbia and Ukraine.

Slovenia remains outside the coverage of this report as we feel it is sufficiently developed. This will increasingly be the case for other markets in the region, with new members of the Eurozone and the EU being welcomed, helping to encourage development. This is something that will be monitored for future editions. Other markets such as Andorra, Azerbaijan and Montenegro could be contenders for inclusion in future although at present we feel they are not sufficiently developed to warrant inclusion.

The country chapters include coverage of the socio-economic environment (statistics are presented in full in the separate Broader Market Environment Appendix section of the report). These sections also look at the retail sector, including Mintel retail sales forecasts where possible.

Each country also has a list of some of the leading retailers although the amount of available data varies markedly for this section. Readers are advised that this list is not necessarily intended to represent the largest retailers in the region, nor to provide exhaustive coverage. The report also includes profiles of 19 of the largest retailers in the region including commentary on their activities and analysis of their recent performance.
