About the market…

The remote betting market offers a variety of channels via which punters can place bets on sports fixtures, financial markets, political elections, reality television shows and other events. Internet betting is the most popular method of remote betting with some 9% of recent punters having placed a bet with an online bookmaker, while 5% have used a telephone service. The remote betting market will continue to be stimulated by increasing penetration of Internet access in UK households, which has almost doubled in the period from 2001 to 2005. Internet gambling services have driven the remote betting market and there are now some 60% of adults online. Further growth can be expected in other methods of remote betting as other digital media platforms become established.
