Mintel last investigated the market for vehicle breakdown and recovery services in Market Intelligence, July 1998. This report assesses changes in the market since that time, including significant developments in the ownership and structure of the three leading players.

In common with previous reports on this market, exclusive consumer research has been commissioned from NOP to identify those aspects of vehicle breakdown and recovery services which are most important to customers or members. Where possible, these findings have been compared with earlier results to indicate whether any basic or add-on services offered have increased or declined in importance. The results of this research have also been cross-referred with actual membership in order to highlight whether AA members, for example, have different demands and expectations from those of their competitors.
