“The economy has been in limbo for much of the year. We haven’t fallen back into recession, but growth has been lacklustre, at best. Already fairly pessimistic predictions of GDP growth have been repeatedly revised downwards. It’s unsurprising that Mintel’s Consumers and the Economic Outlook – Quarterly Update finds that consumers’ own financial situation is following a similar pattern. Few expect an immediate upturn, either: two fifths don’t think that the feelgood factor will return to the economy until 2014 at the earliest.”
