The key findings of the report detail how the number of films and level of investment in the British film industry grew in 2000. However, this masked an underlying trend that while more films were being made in Britain and by British companies, very few of them make it to the big screen. That said, each year invariably throws up a success story that keeps the British film industry in the limelight and encourages greater investment. Significant change took place in 2001 with the launch of The Film Council. Its effect on the industry, in terms of quality and quantity of output, has yet to be fully realised, but the industry hopes that by bringing many existing organisations under one roof it will lead to a resurgence in a once great industry.
