Wilko has launched its own collection of affordable and self-assembly kitchens. The new range consists of six styles that “reflects the UK’s most popular kitchen aesthetics and colour schemes.” Wilko shoppers now redesign their kitchens from units and worktops to lighting and splashbacks available online. The collection features pre-inserted cams and dowels, removing the need to hire a fitter and each cabinet uses 18 mm melamine -faced chipboard to ensure durability and longevity.

Mintel comment:

“Following its acquisition by The Range after entering administration in August 2023, Wilko has embarked on a strategic expansion within the DIY sector. By expanding its DIY categories with the introduction of self-assembly kitchens, Wilko is not just diversifying its product offering but allowing its shoppers more control and affordability in their home improvement projects. This sentiment has grown over the past years as 76% of consumers prefer tackling DIY projects themselves due to concerns over price rises (see DIY Retailing - UK, 2023 Report).

Earlier this year, Wilko launched its first tool and equipment hire service, Wilkohire. The service provides Wilko shoppers with the necessary resources to complete DIY projects of any scale efficiently. Similarly, its self-assembly kitchen collection allows its shoppers the freedom to upgrade their kitchens without the financial burden of hiring a professional fitter, making kitchen renovations more accessible and affordable as 64% of those who have spent money on their kitchens have sought more low-priced products in the past year due to rising costs (see Mintel’s Kitchens and Kitchens Furniture - UK, 2023 Report).

These initiatives signify a strong comeback for Wilko as it aims to become more adaptable in a highly competitive sector, where customer-centric innovations like its kitchen collections will prove beneficial as consumers seek convenience and affordability in their DIY endeavours.”
